I have tried to research it, and as far as I can tell distelfink is Pennsylvania Dutch for a goldfinch. But I can find no connection to it in the navy. Might not even be US navy. Depicted on the button is a bird carrying some kind of missile . 2 1/4 inches. Light wear, light scratches. 

Possibly it was a battalion of Navy recruits from a specific area inhabited primary by Dutch immigrants and descendants in southern Pennsylvania. Click Here to see a link on Google about Distelfink in WW II. :

It resembles both the P-36 Curtis Hawk, and the F-2 Brewster Buffalo. That makes me think it was early in the war. 1 inch. $22.00 item #6403

What makes this pin so unusual is that the plane was never made operational. Only two prototypes were built, both were scrapped in the 1950s. Probably a cereal or other promotional premium made during the time when the air force was considering putting the plane into production.  1 inch, good condition. $26.50 item #6404

I have 4, 1940, 1943, 1950 and 1961 the pictures above are from the 1961 copy. The manual is a handbook for sailors which discusses everything from code of conduct, ranks, insignia,  1940 has wear to the cover, spine, and edges, light insect damage to first couple of pages, 784 pages. 1943 is the largest of the manuals at 1145 pages, which makes sense due to the addition of all the WW II materials. Cover fading, wear, book is a bit loose, edge, corner wear. Some soiling. 1950 is in about the same condition, 828 pages. 1961 edition is 640 pages. 5 1/4 x 8 inches each. I expect Moravian texts are hard to find, especially those intended for men in the armed forces. Belonged to a Corporal from Winston Salem, there was a good bit of Moravian settlement around the Winston Salem, North Carolina area. Daily texts for 12 months, a list of Moravian churches around the world and in the United States. Some statistics, too, and there were only 38,000 members in the US. Some soiling, you can see some blotching on the cover, edge and corner wear. Soft bound, 4 x 5 3/4 inches. 223 pages. $10.50 Item #5540

EAA stands for the Experimental Aircraft Association based out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin where they have a huge fly in every year. patch has been sewn onto a flight suit, from which it was cut, leaving nylon material on the back.
